Dr. Daniel Loisance’s clinical activities have included treatment of coronary disease, valve diseases, aortic aneuvrysms, and cardiac failure: he designed new microsurgical techniques for coronary repair, new procedures for the treatment of cardiogenic shock and complications of myocardial infarction. He is one of the pioneers in experimental research and clinical applications of mechanical circulatory support. He performed the first in man implantation of various circulatory assist devices (Hemopump, wearable Novacor LVAS).

He is a member of the French Academy of Médecine and of the French Academy of Surgery. He is alsomember of many international scientific societies (American Association of Thoracic and Cardio-Vascular surgery (AATS), the European Association of Thoracic and Cardiac Surgery (EACTS). He is Past President of the European Society of Artificial Organs, co-founder of the International Society of Heart Valve Diseases. He is presently Associate Editor of the European Journal of Cardio-thoracic Surgery. He received many honors: Legion d’Honneur in France, Emile Bücherl ESAO Prize in Berlin, and Honorary Professor in Beijing.
