Professor Changqing Gao Elected Member of The Chinese Academy of Engineering

On December 7, 2015, Prof. Changqing Gao, a pioneer surgeon in robotic cardiac surgery was elected a Member of the Chinese Academy of Engineering after extreme competitive and rigorous selection process.

The Chinese Academy of Engineering is the informative academic organization in China with the highest national honor and authority in pursuit of advancement and excellence of the development of the engineering, science and technology.

The membership of the Chinese Academy of Engineering is a lifetime award, and only 7 admissions were available for the Medicine and Health Branch in the 2015 national election.

Known as the "Father of Robotic Cardiac Surgery in Asia", Prof. Gao and his surgical team have utilized the da Vinci Surgical System to its maximum potential - performing all of the various different types of cardiac surgery of which the system is capable since the first case success in 2007. Till now, about 900 cases of robotic cardiac surgery have all been successfully completed. Prof. Gao and his surgical team is dedicated to the continued contribution to the future research and development of the techniques of robotic cardiac surgery and to the training of robotic surgeons both in China and abroad which will improve surgical outcomes for the patients worldwide.
